Wednesday September 21st Hagafoss to Konsberg

No wind today, these reflections of the autumn colours on the river were magical. Taken out the window!

I was reading a few of my past blogs and noticed a number of spelling errors…apologies, often not time to proof read…or that is my excuse!
Woke to a complete change to yesterday, very grey and rather cold. Sat lazily over coffee looking at maps and deciding if we would go to Oslo, but decided to give it a miss and take a more southerly route. Drove back up the highway a short distance to Geilo which is a huge winter ski town. There are a large number of hotels as well cabins dotted in the hills for miles, and guess that it is due to Oslo being only a few hours’ drive away.
It was an excellent drive on HW40 on wide roads (no need for me to be putting the brake on today!) taking us up into the mountain’s to well over 1000metres, then down again, and up again, all the while passing huge numbers of cabins. Would love to see it in the winter when it is covered in snow. The aspen trees still have some yellow leaves but the autumn colours are past their best.
We descended into the valley and back into farming. Noticed so many farms had what looked like very old grain stores built in log home style on high piles designed to stop rodents entering. They were often quite decorative and probably no longer used but obviously still have an historical value. Managed to get a photo as we drove past a couple, shame that there is nowhere on these roads that you can pull over for a proper photo.
After a stop for lunch in Rogberg we continued onto Konsberg. Parked Ruakiwi in town and had a good walk around what was quite a pleasant town, although the very grey skies made it look a tad dreary. The river runs through town and there is a wide waterfall which I will try and find a spot to photograph tomorrow. We had spotted a nice campspot beside the river at a rest area on the way in so returned the 5kms to spend the night, rather nice looking out onto in a misty evening, with a couple of truckies for companyl
Pasture, cabins in the trees and ski runs in the background, a really interesting landscape.

This wasn't listed as a Stave Church, but pretty sure it is. In the town of Uvdal

This is a chain of grocery stores....would love to know how it got it's "Kiwi" name!

Make the most of the remaining leaves Meg, grey will soon be the predominant color until the snow arrives in your current latitude. Keep up the blog ,who cares about spelling/ grammar. Keep on having fun and writing.
