Thursday June 9, San Francisco

It’s been a long day…we will have had June 9 for 43 hours!

It was a very smooth start, with visits to Dean and Janine, goodbyes to Heatherbelle, leaving Molly dog at Steve’s ( she just jumped out of the car and wandered into the house, without even a goodbye!), and then onto Craig and Nicky’s at work. Craig drove us to the airport, and Lynn Clayton also arrived to have a drink with us before we boarded for the 5.15 pm flight.

Lucky for us 40 passengers had missed their connecting flights, leaving a number of empty seats, two of which were beside us. So good to be able to spread out, just about as good as Premium Economy!

Flight went really well and in fact landed early due to a tail wind all the way.

Arrived at the hotel near the airport before midday and didn’t have to wait long before they had a room ready for us, nice spot right on the bay overlooking the water, and pretty quiet.

We were keen to head into the city for the afternoon so after a welcome shower we caught the free shuttle bus from the hotel to the underground train station, and a half hour trip right into centre of town.

We struck a real sunny afternoon although still quite cool with the breeze. Everyone was out and about enjoying themselves, although surprised to see so many homeless lying around sleeping in the park area.

Had a really late lunch sitting outside people watching…feels like our holiday has really started. Didn’t have time to do any of the tourist things but will try and make it back at the end of our trip to do a few of those things.

The tiredness was starting to set in by the time we caught the train and bus back to the hotel at 5, but determined to try and keep awake a little longer.
