July 27 Sunday Spry Lake, Bruce Peninsula, ON
The day has been quite hazy, people felt a storm might have been brewing, but so far no sign of it. Spent a few hours wandering around Tobermory, a really quaint tourist village, did the groceries at the local store, then found a great gallery, Circle Arts, featuring local artists. The work of a quiliter/fabric artist was superb, creating pictures from pieces of fabric. She would lay out little pieces of fabric to create the picture and lay some very fine net over the top to hold them in place, then stitch and enhance over it. She had a great sense of colour, and could easily have brought one home, but the $2000 price tag held me back a little. The local photographer, Janusz Wrobel had some landscapes that I was in awe of.
Meandered south and turned into Dyer’s Bay, on the Georgian Bay side of Lake Huron. We had to turn around in the boat ramp and some locals gave us some black looks, very closed community obviously. Further along found a place to pull over for lunch beside the lake. Interesting rocks formations, part of the Niagra escarpment, wandered down with my camera….again!
Contined south through much more open country and there were quite a few beef cattle grazing outside. Planned a stop at Wiarton, but it held no appeal, so crossed over to the western side of the peninsula and spotted a campground on the shores of a small lake. It wasn’t marked in our guide books, and it mainly holds seasonal campers, who set up there caravans permanently, and spend the summer here, just like a bach. The add on rooms and verandahs, and have little gardens with decorations. The whole place is so well kept, and we got a great spot looking out on the lake..glorious sunset.
