Friday July 3

A real catchup day, slept like logs on our new mattress. Very late breakfast, and spent the morning sorting out the cupboards and rediscovering all the things that we had left in the van last summer. Hard to believe it is a holiday weekend, as this part of the camp is so quiet with only about 6 other groups of campers. Evidently it is the newer section, and the older part which is among trees is much busier.

Headed into Humboldt this afternoon to check out the town, and get a few supplies. There is an Independence Day parade in “Main Street” at 7pm tomorrow, so plan to join in and enjoy how small town America celebrates.

The supermarket was a hive of activity, and everyone was so friendly. Got talking to the bakery manager as I wanted to take photos of the decorated cupcakes. We talked about the celebrations tomorrow, and he said that we should come back to the supermarket carpark after the parade, as they have a real party with a barbecue, and everyone watches the fireworks at 10pm, sounds like a great idea. As we wandered around, the store manager came and had a chat with us, everyone is interested in our travels.

Another chap came and had a chat with us back at the van, and he is with the local Lion’s club, and invited us to have a pancake breakfast with them tomorrow at the park, there is also a Farmers Market on in town, so many choices.

Quite overcast and humid today, with a few spits of rain.
