Thursday May 25, Montelieu-Vercieu

It’s a public holiday today, Ascension Day and after a really quiet night and early morning, this afternoon as the heat as risen everyone seems to have arrived at the River. It is such a nice spot here that we decided to stay another night.
We have had the best day, going for the best ride so far, just what I imagined we would be doing with our bikes. There are dedicated tar sealed bike trails all along the river side. We headed down river and initially the trail was beneath a stop bank but soon were riding along the river side. Many others were out bike riding, families as well as serious riders. Crossed the river to the town of Sault-Brenaz than on to Saint-Sorlin and all along the way I was stopping to take photos as we passed castles, churches and fields of poppies. Very pleased with my camera bag sitting on the front of my bike, so easy to just grab my camera. Such beautiful country with the mountains in behind.
On our return stopped at Sault-Brenaz where we had spotted a café above the river. A great spot with the breeze blowing and enjoyed a nice salad for lunch and of course a well-deserved cold wine. It was 2.30 when we got back, and had biked 24 kms. Spent the rest of the afternoon on our chairs in the shade of the trees as the temperature rose to almost 30 degrees. A cool place to people watch and read.
Lots of photos today taken on our ride.

Dear Meg and Ian,
thank you for sharing, we all get to have a tour of France. Delighted for you that it has been a wish list for a long time and all is working out. The cyclists here all seem to have a ride which involves coffee, your point of difference is the refreshment is wine. Comfortably ticking along here in Richmond, start of winter has been very mild but missing the big lumps of dry Rata and fire that burned 24/7. Kind to share the picture of forest trees, seemed to be a mixture with grass, crops and people so integrated into the landscape.Have been told the snapper all move out to deeper water during the winter, tried two days ago and proved correct but large Gurnard were very cooperative. Have two days work next week driving a wheel tractor in a tree nursery, passed the drug test yesterday. The addition of a map puts the trip into perspective, still lots of places to visit. Have fun, Lots of love Ed Bright
