Wednesday November 9, Rotterdam.

View from the van
Woke to 2 degrees and light rain, so turned the TV on and stayed under the duvet and watched the USA election results….could not believe what we heard, didn’t make us want to spring out of bed! With the longer evenings we have really enjoyed the TV even though we could only watch two English programs, BBC World News and NBC European News, but we could keep up with the world news.
We stopped in the centre of Volendam for a bit of a look around and few supplies, with coats, scarves and layers of clothes. Looked to be a rather nice town but the cold beat us and we were on the route south towards Rotterdam. It meant using the motorways to take the ring road around Amsterdam and The Hague and Jilly did a great job with no problems and surprisingly the traffic was really quite light. We have found a great place to overnight, right beside the main waterway from the North Sea to the Port of Rotterdam, which continues on into the Rhine. Have been entertained by an endless procession of barges and container ships. We put our feet up with our books for the afternoon but this evening the rain and wind stopped so we went for an amble around the waterfront, large boats tied up, apartments overlooking the water, bridges and disappointed to find a nice place to eat…after we had a meal in the van! Just love it when we find these sort of places to “legally” stay overnight, right in the heart of the action and views that you would pay so much for if it was from an hotel. And this spot is free and incudes free electricity, what more could you ask for.  Mind you there is only three spaces, so guess you need to be quick.
The weather has slowed us down quite a bit, seems like it is time we went home!!! Tomorrow we will be back in England. Only one wet photo from today.
