Friday September 23 – Treungen (Norway) to Hirtshals (Denmark)

Morning mist
The weather forecast I read last night was correct, some light rain started falling in the early hours but by 10 it cleared to a really nice blue sky day. We enjoyed our overnight spot especially looking out to a very misty moody lake this morning.
We continued south on HW41 enjoying the scenic road, except in parts where the road was squeezed between the mountains and the lake making it a single lane…and lots of blind corners, but we made it safely, I am sure because I had the breaks on all the time!
Found a sani dump road sign at the small town of Amli, and after a little looking found it and able to empty tanks, although the pump wasn’t going so couldn’t refill with drinking water.
Not so much farmland through this valley, but a lot of forestry, not up to Kiwi standards though Ed! We have noticed the large number of tractors towing very heavy trailers which are used during road construction to cart rocks etc, rather than using a big truck. Today we saw one on the motorway coming in Kristensand, just toolting along like any other vehicle.
Got ourselves to the ferry terminal at 2pm to check out when we could get a sailing, and surprised to be able to get on the next ferry leaving at 4.30. Booked it online using their free wifi as it was cheaper than buying a ticket over the counter. The trip across the to Hirtshals took 3 ½ hours, and I travelled so well thanks once again to Heather’s little pills and even managed to have a light dinner on board as knew we would be late getting to our campsite. Had done some research and found a bare grassed patch not far from the terminal, especially for motorhomes, so Jilly had us here, in the dark in no time at all. Had to pay 75 DKR with my credit card that opened the barrier, but ideal to overnight.  We had a whistle stop trip through Denmark on our way north, so will have a look around this Northern part over the next little while. Time to put the Norwegian money away and get out the Danish Kroners that we didn’t use last time.
Having some issues with my laptop crashing a lot, so will get this loaded while I can and hopefully can get it sorted and it is nothing major.
Wonderful, especially when the sun came out soon after.

A scenic drive

Obviously a "heron" place, but never got to see any!

Arriving in Kristiansand

Queue for the ferry

A really modern ferry for the journey.
