Thursday Nov 21, Red Barn RV Park, Roswell NM

The Weather Channel provided what we needed to know....it was going to be cold...for quite a few days!
Once again “things” beyond our control have changed our plans….time once again to make “lemonade out of lemons”!!! Checked The Weather Channel out this morning and the forecast for the next 4 days is pretty grim, temperatures in the surrounding areas are unlikely to get above freezing point during the day and will dip much lower at night, with a good chance of snow and sleet. Oh Boy!!!!
Our plans for heading East into Texas didn’t seem a good idea. The storm is not due in until tonight so after much deliberation decided that we needed to take a safe option and head west. The town of Roswell with a population of about 50,000 seemed like a good place for us to hunker down and sit out the storm.
Before we left town, went to Walmart and bought a small electric heater, hopefully it will mean that we don’t need to run the propane heater day and night. Also stocked up on water, food…and the essential alcohol, enough to be self sufficient in case the storm lasts for quite a few days.
We really enjoyed the 2 ½ hour drive today, thought it might be similar to yesterdays through all the oil fields, but it was mainly ranch country with only the odd oil pump. Even saw a number of cattle and sheep so guess Ian has to be happy with this little glimpse into what he hoped to see in Texas

Ranches all have their ornate entrances ...one of many, couldn't see any of the homes, they are 2 1/2 miles down this road.
Checked out online about RV parks in Roswell and saw good comments about the Red Barn, decided that it would be a good place to spend a few days. It really is delightful camp, quite small with a wonderful owner who made us feel so welcome.
After sorting out our booking we explored town, there is a huge craft fair in the main centre tomorrow and Saturday so if the local roads are passable we may visit.
It has been really warm all day and at 4.30pm it was 22 degrees C, but then the front seemed to arrive, the leaves blew off the trees and within 2 hours the temp had dropped to 8 degrees. I wonder what tomorrow will bring!
Later…by 9pm it is down to 3 degrees….will need the woollies on tonight.
Sunset tonight behind the camp, the storm clouds were gathering.

Good on The Weather Channel.. Cameron will be pleased... but I am sorry the weather is so yukky! Beautiful few days in New Zealand...time to come home :) 22 Degrees C at 7pm is pretty good for November.
