A great Torta from the Verde Lea
Well life on the road is never dull, and often plans change!!! We had booked Ruakiwi in for her regular service to a great RV Service Centre attached to an RV park in Cottonwood that had been recommended to us, and planned to travel to Jerome afterwards.
They found that the front absorbers needed replacing which we were happy to have done along with the regular service. But there were issues with the parts that resulted in the van still being in the workshop at 5pm, so they hooked us up to power and we stayed the night in their yard.
We were able to contact Sue who we met at camp on the first night as we had planned to share a camp dinner. Sue ended up coming to the yard and picking us up and we went to dinner at a local restaurant called The Little Red Schoolhouse, that had been recommended, and what a great night. The food was fantastic and we ended up with a great bottle of Napa Chardonnay from the Hess Winery….we had visited this with Pam when we were touring (were thinking of you last night when we drank it Pam!!)
During the day we walked up town a way to get some lunch and happened upon a small local Mexican cafĂ© called the Verde Lea, well what a find. We were met by the owner, Bill who was such a character and all the staff made us feel welcome. We were looking blankly at the choices, so he came to the rescue and said “this is what you need” and before long Ian was presented with a Torta and I had the Tacos. They were the freshest and best Mexican food we had ever eaten and by the number of locals that came in and out while we were there it obviously is extremely popular. So don’t pass through Cottonwood without stopping at the Verde Lea.
Ian and Bill

This morning discovered that for the past 3 days we had our clocks an hour fast, had changed to Mountain Time in Utah and as Arizona is also Mountain Time didn’t think anything of it….but for some reason the rest of the country observes Daylight Saving until the beginning of November, except Arizona!!!
No scenic photos today, but we had a lot of fun in town!
The girls at the cafe were great.
Valerie and John, enjoyed meeting them at lunch

A novel way of displaying jewellery in a Western Store in town.

Howdy Meg and Ian, pleased you are making lemonade out of the lemon of disruption to places to visit, tis fun to buy things to eat you have never seen before and can't pronounce the name. Was very impressed by the wooden canoes and guide boats seen in the Adirondack museum, perhaps something similar insprired Ian to his wonderful row boat. Sadly our last day, have booked a room near Buffalo airport which we will only need for half a night as we need to be at the airport at 4-30am. Has been wonderful, USA is a great place to be and we have gained more appreciation of pride of location, many hamlets having been occupied for nearly 300 yrs by english speaking people. Continue to travel safe and we will follow your adventures from Rotorua. Lots of Love, Vicki n Ed.
