Wednesday August 27

August 27 Wednesday Val-Comeau Provincial Park NB

I noticed that this is the 48th day I have been writing my blog….it doesn’t seem that long, although have done and seen so much and we have travelled over 4000 miles in Ruakiwi.
It was a glorious morning, clear and sunny, sat outside for breakfast overlooking the bay. With putting our clocks forward an hour yesterday, the body clock seemed a little out of sync.
We followed the Arcadian Coastal route south east, passing through some pretty ordinary towns, that seemed to be dominated by industry. The main town in the area is Bathurst, where we did a bit of shopping and odds and ends. Wandered around, but it was not an exciting area. On down the coast to a little spot at Salmon Beach where we stopped for lunch.
The next coastal area we passed through was fascinating, an agricultural area with old buildings and rich in Arcadian history. There were red, blue and white flags and painted buildings all along the way. We noticed that the language, is still predominantly French here, although New Brunswick is multilingual.
It was getting on towards four and had checked out campgrounds in the Val-Comeau area…we landed on our feet with this one, with a site overlooking the tidal river, and a short walk across to the coast. The area is full of bird life, with a large number of herons in the river bed. Took our bikes and explored the camp and surrounding area, such a perfect afternoon with a cloudless sky and very warm. Sat out on the point where the river flows out to sea and watched a number of boats heading out fishing. The sunset was brilliant. Couldn’t sit outside for tea as the mosquitoes where pretty ferocious, once again.
